PIBM organised a ‘Yoga’ session on International Day of Yoga 2019 at Pune campus.

Event: International Yoga Day 2019
Date: 21st June 2019
Time: 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM
Venue: Auditorium, Pirangut Campus, Pune Institute of Business Management

‘Yoga’, derived from Sanskrit word ‘Yuj’, means ‘to add’ or ‘to join’. Yoga is a unique form of physical activity that not only increases strength, stamina, agility, and flexibility of our body, but also helps our brain to attain a state of consciousness, calmness, memory, and improve overall functionality; making it one of the best holistic approaches for the whole body and mind to transcend.
‘The theme of the 5th International Day of Yoga proposed by the United Nations, was ‘Yoga for Climate Action’, urging all the governments to be mindful about the adverse effect of climate change on health and mind. In India, the Ministry of Ayush set the theme of the International Day of Yoga as ‘Yoga for Heart’.
To celebrate the 5th International Day of Yoga, Pune Institute of Business Management organised a ‘Yoga’ session on 21st June 2019 at its Pirangut campus. 472 students and 25 faculties participated in the session. Shri Govind Gadgil and his team guided the whole session. Shri Gadgil, Senior Yoga Trainer of Patanjali Yog Samiti of Pune chapter, explained that ‘Yoga was not only for the benefit of health…..it also beneficial for the intellectual development and growth.’ He also explained the necessity of Yoga among the students.
At the beginning of the session, Yoga guru Mr. Gadgil asked students how many of them had a habit of daily physical exercise, irrespective of its form. The response was surprisingly low with only around 35 to 40 per cent of the students practicing some form of the physical activity daily. The one-hour long session witnessed the students and yoga gurus performing various aasanas, concluding with a meditation session.
It was evident and an excellent notion, that Millennial and Generation Z students are mindful about their holistic development from the early stages of their lives. PIBM has been encouraging students for the physical fitness from the very first day of its inception. From the very first day, a well-equipped gymnasium and meditation/yoga hall was designated to encourage the students.
